oneness
"IT’S A RACE AGAINST TIME. ARE WE STANDING STILL?
ARE WE CHANGING SOMETHING? ARE WE MAKING EVERYTHING WORSE OR BETTER?
WHEN WILL WE UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE ONE WITH EVERYTHING? WE ARE PART OF EVERYTHING THAT IS. WE DON’T JUST LIVE ON EARTH. WE ARE HER. WE ARE ONE"
(Maria-Helena Loheide, 2022)
The theme of this work is the pollution of the oceans and the suffering of marine life caused by us humans and our plastic waste. After the designer experimented with different types of garbage, she ultimately decided to focus on single-use plastic, specifically bottle carrier packaging, garbage bags, fruit and vegetable bags; everything that is unnecessary and then disappears into the sea to a large extent.
Some disposable plastic bags were collected from friends and family and she made others, as well as herself, more aware of plastic consumption. She processed the bags and made new yarn from them, which she used to crochet new items of clothing.
The collection mainly addresses the topic of marine life that has become entangled in plastic waste such as fishing nets, fishing line, bags, can carriers, etc. and is thus constricted.
